The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s annual Momentum exhibition features Oklahoma artists aged 30 and under, working in a variety of media. The exhibition presents a diversified look at the young artistic talent in Oklahoma. I was honored to serve as the Guest Curator for the 2022 iteration of Momentum, with Cara Alizadeh-Fard as Emerging Curator. Momentum took place over three days in late March and concluded with a curators’ and Spotlight Artists’ talk. In 2022 we showcased 62 emerging visual artists, including three Spotlight Artists, using a wide range of media including, painting, printmaking, sculpture, video, and much more!

Through Momentum Spotlight, OVAC provides three artists the opportunity to create new bodies of work with curatorial guidance and a $1,000 honorarium. Examples of their existing work are also featured in a Spotlight Exhibition at 21c Museum Hotels before debuting their newly created works at Momentum. 2022’s Spotlight Artists were Stillwater-based painter Shyanne Dickey, Oklahoma City-based sculptor Carrie Kouts, and Tulsa-based glass artist Kayla Ohlmer.
